Guidance on labelling and packaging CLP | Version 4.2 2020 Draft

This document provides guidance on the labelling and packaging requirements of substances and mixtures set out in the CLP Regulation. The guidance opens in section 2 with a general overview, including legal background, scope of the CLP Regulation and updating of CLP labels.

That section also includes information about timelines for classification, labelling, packaging and updating of CLP labels. The guidance continues in section 3 and section 4 with an explanation of the requirements for labelling and packaging and rules for the application of the CLP label elements. Section 5 provides guidance on particular aspects of CLP hazard labelling (e.g. exemption from certain labelling and packaging requirements, interaction between the CLP and transport labelling rules, labelling requirements for specific cases of unique packaging). Finally, section 6 and section 7 of the guidance provide practical examples illustrating different situations that may be encountered when designing labels.
