CEN/TR 18058:2024 - Continuous handling equipment and systems - Safety requirements for equipment for mechanical handling of unit loads - Interpretations relating to EN 619:2022.
Il rapporto tecnico è una raccolta di interpretazioni relative alla norma EN 619:2022 che tratta i requisiti di sicurezza per le apparecchiature di movimentazione meccanica di carichi unitari:
- trasportatori a nastro;
- trasportatori a catena;
- trasportatori a rulli (motorizzati e folli);
- monorotaie;
- traslatori su rotaia.
Le interpretazioni mirano a migliorare la comprensione dei punti a cui fanno riferimento e, in tal modo, a facilitare la comprensione reciproca tra fabbricanti, installatori, organismi notificati, organismi di ispezione e autorità nazionali. Le interpretazioni non hanno lo stesso valore delle norme europee a cui si riferiscono. Tuttavia, l'applicazione delle interpretazioni garantisce alle parti interessate che la norma europea pertinente non sia stata applicata in modo errato.

QUESTION
The gap "d" between the column of the ESPE and the conveyor shall not exceed 0,1 m (see Figure 0.5). => Distance (d) between conveyor and column ofthe ESPE max. 0.1 m.
Crushing and shearing hazards between the posts of ESPE and the conveyed load may be considered as avoided if:
- the distance between the posts and the load is at least 120 mm and
- a static force of max. 500 N applied to the post at 1,0 m above the reference floor in conveying direction leads to the activation of the ESPE stopping the conveyor.
=> Max. Force 500 N at 1.0 m height and distance min. 120 mm.
How are these two requirements compatible?
INTERPRETATION
Both requirements cannot be met at the same time, if the load is larger than the conveyor, then impeding devices must be used between the conveyor and the column to account for the gap larger than 0.lm. This value of 0.1 m should not exceed otherwise people could squeeze through unnoticed, therefore an additional means is necessary (e.g. sloping plates).

QUESTION
ls the draw-in protection with the plastic parts (see picture) sufficient in working areas according to the Machinery Directive and EN 619:2022?
There is no reference to working, traffic or maintenance areas in EN 619:2022. The standard only refers to filler pieces between the rollers in working areas.
INTERPRETATION
The nip-guards are sufficient, as they avoid pull-in points as intrinsic safe design solutions. Nipguards in feed points are to be designed in such a way that they result in a continuous gap of max. 5 mm between rotating and fixed/rotating components. This only addressed the hazards of being pulled in from the pulleys not covering other potential hazards.
